Technology is transforming the dental world in remarkable ways, making trips to the dentist quicker, more efficient and more comfortable. Chestnuthill Dental is constantly on the lookout for all the latest cutting-edge technology and tools to help us deliver the most pleasant dental experience possible. We’re proud to most recently do this through the use of SprintRay 3D printing.
For years, restorative solutions like crowns, bridges and dentures required repeated visits to the dentist. Before recent technological advancements, dentists depended on outside labs to create custom restorations. But SprintRay 3D printing has changed the game, allowing us to make restorations and oral appliances in just a few hours in-office!
How does SprintRay 3D printing work?
Our 3D printer works hand-in-hand with other advanced technology in our office, such as intraoral devices and photogrammetry. These innovations quickly and comfortably capture highly detailed images and models of our patients’ teeth and oral structures without the need for traditional goopy, messy impression molds. The digital scans are fed to our SprintRay 3D printer that then builds, layer by layer using a special resin, an exact replica of whatever dental product is needed, whether that’s a crown, an orthodontic retainer, a denture or an oral appliance.
What are the benefits of SprintRay 3D printing?
SprintRay 3D printing is revolutionizing dental care, benefitting both patients and practices in a number of ways, including:
Speedy turnaround times
No more waiting for weeks on labs to custom-fabricate a dental solution — the entire 3D printing process has decreased the waiting time to a few hours or less in-house! This means we can often create and place a restoration in the same visit or in one simple follow-up. This improves the efficiency of our Sciota office while also enhancing our patients’ overall dental experience.
Improved comfort
For years, taking traditional impressions has kept many patients — especially those with dental anxiety and/or sensitive gag reflexes — out of the dentist’s chair. By using digital scanning technology, SprintRay 3D printing has eliminated the need for messy, gooey, gag-inducing impression molds and having to bite down on trays for extended periods of time. A visit to the dentist is far less daunting with this innovative technology, and comfortable, at-ease patients are more likely to visit the dentist twice a year as recommended to maintain optimal oral health.
Versatility
SprintRay 3D printing is versatile, being able to create various dental applications, including crowns, bridges, aligners, dentures and surgical guides.
Cost savings
Affordable dental care is important, especially in today’s economy. Being able to fabricate restorations in-house helps our dental practice save money on labs and shipping fees — savings we’re able to pass down to our patients. SprintRay 3D printing means fewer follow-up visits to the dentist, adding up to significant savings for patients while also increasing our practice’s overall productivity.
Eco-friendly
Traditional digital impressions create waste. 3D printing, on the other hand, is energy-efficient and builds layer by layer, using only the material needed to make a restoration. Materials used in 3D printing are also often biodegradable and recyclable, making this innovation far friendlier to our environment.
SprintRay 3D printing is innovative technology that is changing the way Chestnuthill Dental delivers dental care. With the use of groundbreaking technological tools like in-house 3D printing, we can offer more accurate and more comfortable dental treatments, giving you the high-quality care you deserve without the long wait times.
