Implant Placement and Restoration

Sciota, Pennsylvania

If you have a missing tooth or need to have a bad tooth extracted soon, consider replacing that missing tooth to restore your smile and chewing ability. At Chestnuthill Dental, we offer the perfect solution for most healthy adults: dental implants.

Dental implants closely resemble natural teeth because the implant post takes the place of the toothā€™s root, and the crown attached to the implant serves are the visible part of a tooth that resides above the gum line. Once in place, an implant looks and functions just like a real tooth.

What are dental implants?

Dental implants consist of three components including:

How are dental implants installed?

A single dental implant is installed in several appointments once a tooth is removed.

At the first appointment, the implant post is surgically placed into the jawbone. Then, a healing cap is placed on top of the implant to prevent the gum from growing over it. Your jawbone will need 4-6 months to heal before it is ready for the dental crown.

Your next visit consists of taking impressions and scans of your teeth so that your custom crown can be made. It may take a couple of weeks to make your implant crown.

The last appointment is when the abutment and crown are permanently attached to the implant. Bite adjustments are made, and then you are well on your way to a newly restored smile.

What are the benefits of dental implants?

Our Scotia implant dentists explain that this tooth replacement procedure comes with many benefits

For one, the implant stimulates the jawbone to prevent resorption, a common problem after teeth are extracted. No other tooth replacement option stimulates and preserves the jawbone.
Dental implants also can help restore your chewing ability so that you can comfortably chew nutritious foods again.
Another benefit is that dental implants do not require the use of other teeth for support, like partials and dental bridges. This can be a significant benefit for patients that are looking for the most minimally invasive procedure.
Unlike other restorations, dental implants are designed to last a lifetime with proper care and maintenance.

In addition to single implants, we also offer the All-on-4 implant system, as well as implant dentures, which are implant options that can replace multiple or all missing teeth on a single dental arch. These options are ideal for patients with significant or total tooth loss.
