Implant Placement and Restoration
Sciota, Pennsylvania
If you have a missing tooth or need to have a bad tooth extracted soon, consider replacing that missing tooth to restore your smile and chewing ability. At Chestnuthill Dental, we offer the perfect solution for most healthy adults: dental implants.
Dental implants closely resemble natural teeth because the implant post takes the place of the toothās root, and the crown attached to the implant serves are the visible part of a tooth that resides above the gum line. Once in place, an implant looks and functions just like a real tooth.
What are dental implants?
Dental implants consist of three components including:
- Titanium screw ā this component is surgically placed into your jawbone at the site of the missing tooth. Through a process called osseointegration, the implant fuses to the bone, creating a permanent, stable foundation to support the crown
- An abutment ā this component serves as a connector piece and is used to attach the crown to the top of the implant. It is not visible once the final steps of the implant are complete.
- Dental crown ā this is the visible part of the implant and is designed to look and function like a real tooth. The outer layer of the crown is made from the highest quality dental porcelain and can be shaded to match your surrounding teeth for the most natural results.

How are dental implants installed?
A single dental implant is installed in several appointments once a tooth is removed.
At the first appointment, the implant post is surgically placed into the jawbone. Then, a healing cap is placed on top of the implant to prevent the gum from growing over it. Your jawbone will need 4-6 months to heal before it is ready for the dental crown.
Your next visit consists of taking impressions and scans of your teeth so that your custom crown can be made. It may take a couple of weeks to make your implant crown.
The last appointment is when the abutment and crown are permanently attached to the implant. Bite adjustments are made, and then you are well on your way to a newly restored smile.
