Sciota, Pennsylvania
Some people have lived their entire lives with misaligned or crooked teeth. As an adult, the idea of orthodontics isn’t very appealing. After all, we usually associate straightening teeth with awkward and sometimes uncomfortable traditional metal braces. But straightening teeth as an adult has never been easier or more discreet than it is right now.
More than 1 million adults each year trust Invisalign to straighten their teeth. On today’s blog, our cosmetic dentist in Sciota is addressing what you can expect if you choose this easy, discreet method of straightening your teeth.
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign clear aligner therapy is an alternative to traditional metal braces. It’s an innovative treatment to straighten misaligned or crooked teeth. Because the aligners are clear and easy to use — and also because they tend to straighten teeth quicker than braces — more and more adults and older teens are turning to Invisalign. Once you’ve decided to move forward with Invisalign to straighten your teeth, you can expect your treatment to happen in essentially the following five easy steps:
-
Consultation
Your first appointment will be a time for our Sciota Invisalign dentist to examine your teeth and mouth and talk with you about your goals for cosmetic dentistry. You will find out in this appointment if Invisalign is our dentists’ recommended treatment plan for you, according to your goals. And if so, the dentist will discuss your customized cosmetic dentistry plan, including an estimated treatment time with Invisalign.
-
Imaging
Our cosmetic dentist in Sciota will need a model of your mouth and teeth to customize your clear aligner trays that will be used to straighten your teeth. This could happen in tandem with your initial consultation, or the dentist may decide to schedule this as a follow-up visit after your exam. We will take photos, x-rays and digital scans to recreate a precise model of your mouth and teeth.
-
Fitting the first tray
Your first tray is your jumping-off point with Invisalign. Once it is fabricated and ready to be fitted, you will have another appointment. Our dentist will make sure your tray fits precisely. You will wear the clear aligner trays for two or three weeks before switching to a smaller tray. This is what gently repositions your teeth over time — and usually in a shorter period of time than it takes braces.
-
Follow-up appointments
Unlike braces, our Invisalign dentist in Sciota will not need to see you regularly to make awkward and uncomfortable adjustments to brackets and wires. We may want to see you two to three weeks after your first fitting just to evaluate your progress and make sure you’re ready for the next tray in your treatment series. After that, you will return only periodically for us to check your progress.
-
Enjoy your straighter teeth!
You will wear your trays 22 hours a day. This discipline is why Invisalign is better for older teens and adults. You can remove the trays for eating, drinking anything other than water and for brushing and flossing. Follow these simple steps, and you’ll be enjoying straighter teeth in practically no time!
